Community Services, Training and Development

2004

  • Provided Industrial Training for 5 students from AKMA, 5 January 2004 – 2 April 2004.

  • Conducted a “Orthography Workshop” for Suausindak & Community Preschools (Kipouvo, Buayan & Togudon: Kadazandusun; Tinangol & Pitas: Rungus; Kuamut & Balat: Dusun Sungai; Keningau: Murut–Paluan & Gana ) teachers, 17 March 2004, Suausindak Preschool.

  • Conducted a “Traditional Kadazandusun Story Telling Competition” for primary school children in conjunction with the Kaamatan Festival Celebration at the Penampang District Level, organized by Penampang District Council, 8 May 2004, Sabah State Library–Penampang Branch, Donggongon.

  • Co-organised with Limbanak Youth Group a “Bengkel Penulis Kadazandusun” for the 12 zones under Penampang Parish, 26 – 27 June 2004, Jud’s Hall St. Aloysius Limbanak, Penampang.

  • Conducted a state level “Traditional Kadazandusun Story Telling Competition” for primary school children in conjunction with Minggu Galakan Membaca Bahasa Kadazandusun (MGMBK) 2004, organized by Sabah State Library, 4 August 2004, Tun Hamdan Community Centre, Tamparuli.

  • Facilitated at Tobilung Orthography Workshop, 28 – 29 August 2004, Tobilung Cultural House, Kota Marudu.

  • Facilitated at Bajau Writers Workshop, 11 September 2004, Kota Belud Hotel.

  • Provided word list for “Spelling Bee Competition” in conjunction with Minggu Galakan Membaca Bahasa Kadazandusun (MGMBK) 2004 conducted by Sabah State Library–Penampang Branch, 28 October 2004, Sabah State Library–Penampang Branch, Donggongon.

2003

  • Conducted a “Kadazandusun Writers’ Seminar & Workshop” for Kadazandusun teachers in the Tambunan district in conjunction with MGMBK 2003.

  • Conducted a “Kadazandusun Language Seminar & Workshop” for UMS and UiTM would-be Kadazandusun language teachers.

  • Provided publication consultancy for two Sa’ban (an indigenous language group of Sarawak) folktales.

  • Conducted a "Kadazandusun Writer's Seminar" for Kadazandusun teenagers in conjunction with MGMBK 2002 organized by Sabah State Library.

  • Conducted preliminary research on setting-up of "Sabah Database".

  • Drafted module for "Kadazandusun Language Class" for adults.

  • Drafted module for: Kadazandusun Language Seminar, Local Writer's Seminar & Workshop, Translation Principle Workshop and Shell Books Workshop.

  • Conducted a training workshop, Learning That Last (LtL) for KLF & PACOS staff.

  • Organised a "Rungus Orthography Seminar" in Kudat

  • Organised a "Kadazandusun Workbook Production Workshop II"-workbook to be used in Sabah preschools and for young children. · Conducted a two-day "Rungus Writers Seminar" in Kudat

  • Conducted a two-day "Writers Seminar" for teachers in Gaya Ratau, Tamparuli

  • Co-organised a "Kursus Pemantapan Tatabahasa Bahasa Kadazandusun" with Sabah State Education Department

2000

  • Handed over 100 copies of "Kadazan Dusun-Malay-English" dictionary to the Sabah State Education Department. These dictionaries were donated by private agencies and individuals during a "Kadazandusun Dictionary Drive"

  • Conducted a one-day training session in Keningau for literacy teachers who was previously involved with the KLF Adult Literacy Pilot Project (Training & Testing Teacher Proficiency)

  • Organised Kadazandusun Workbook Production Workshop - workbook to be used in community pre-schools managed by PACOS (Partners for Community Organisation) throughout Sabah

  • Organised a "Traditional Kadazandusun Storytelling Demonstration" for teachers and school children in conjunction with the Harvest Festival Celebrations at the Penampang District Level organised by District Office of Penampang

  • Conducted one-day lecture and workshop on "The Importance of Mother Tongue and Getting to Know the Kadazandusun Language" for teachers and students

  • Conducted a "Kadazandusun Language Seminar and Workshop" for Kadazandusun Language Classes potential teachers

1999

  • Co-organized "1st PEKADUS Congress" for the Kadazandusun Educators Association (PEKADUS)

  • Organised Adult Literacy Training and Workshop for selected literacy teachers from Penampang and Keningau

  • Conducted one-day training session at Keningau for literacy teachers of the Adult Literacy Pilot Project (1st training)

  • Conducted one-day training session at Keningau for literacy teachers of the Adult Literacy Pilot Project (2nd training)

  • Conducted a two-day Seminar on Linguistic Aspects of the Kadazandusun Language for Kadazandusun educators

  • In-house training on Basic Phonetics

  • Provided input on "Language Development & Teaching Methodology" at a training workshop organised by PACOS (Partners for Community Organisation) for community pre-school teachers throughout Sabah

  • "Story-book Production Workshop" at Dalit Village in the Keningau district in conjunction with a Motivation Workshop & Seminar

  • Workshop on "Grammatical Aspects of the Kadazandusun Language" hosted by Institut For Indigenous Economic Progress (INDEP)

1998

  • Organised a "Shell Book Production Workshop" for several indigenous communities throughout Sabah. The "Shell Book" method is a book publication method using a template. This method enables mass-production of books in a relatively short period of time

  • Coordinated funding for Kadazandusun language primary-school teachers to conduct further training at their respective districts throughout Saba.

  • Organised the 2nd Workshop for "KLF-Local Writers and Illustrators Network"

  • Provided input on "Language Development & Teaching Methodology" at a training workshop organised by PACOS (Partners for Community Organisation) for community pre-school teachers throughout Sabah

1997

  • Organised the first "Local Writers and Illustrators Seminar". A "KLF-Local Writers and Illustrators Network" was established

  • Co-organised a "Kadazandusun Educators Seminar" with the Institute for Indigenous Economic Progress (Sabah) INDEP

  • Provided input during a teacher training for community pre-schools teachers by PACOS (Partners for Community Organisation)

1996

  • Co-organised seminar on "Embrace Your Culture, Cherish Your Language for Excellence and Unity" with Institut Linguistik SIL-Malaysia Branch during Kadazandusun Language Week hosted by the Sabah State Library.

  • Provided input on "Language Development & Teaching Methodology" during a"Basic Early Childhood and Child Development Course" by PACOS (Partners of Community Organisations)
